Serves: 4-6
Ingredients
-
1 pack HECK Pork & Cheddar sausages
-
1 sheet ready-rolled puff pastry
-
1 egg, beaten
-
1 tin (400g) baked beans, drained of excess sauce
-
200g grated cheddar
-
1 tbsp poppy seeds
-
A little plain flour for dusting
Method
-
Preheat your oven to 200°C and line a baking tray with baking paper.
-
Unroll the puff pastry on a lightly floured surface and cut it in half lengthways to create two long strips.
-
Cut the sausages into 1-2 cm pieces and brown them in a frying pan over medium heat for 3-4 minutes, until lightly golden on the outside. Remove from the pan and set aside to cool slightly.
-
In a bowl, mix the browned sausage pieces with the drained baked beans and grated cheese until well combined. Spoon this mixture evenly down the centre of each pastry strip, leaving a border on either side.
-
Brush one long edge of each pastry strip with beaten egg, fold it over the filling to enclose it, and press the edges firmly together. Crimp with a fork to seal.
-
Cut each long roll into smaller sausage rolls, about 5-6 cm each, and place them seam-side down on the prepared tray. Brush the tops with the remaining beaten egg and sprinkle with poppy seeds.
-
Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the pastry is puffed, golden, and crisp, and the filling is hot and bubbling. Leave to cool slightly before serving.
