Sausage, bean and cheese melt

Warm, flaky puff pastry filled with HECK Pork & Cheddar Sausages, baked beans, and melted cheese - these Cheesy Beany Melts are everything you love about comfort food in one bite. Perfect for family movie nights, picnics, or game-day snacks, they’re a cheesy twist on the classic sausage roll.

Serves: 4-6

Ingredients

  • 1 pack HECK Pork & Cheddar sausages

  • 1 sheet ready-rolled puff pastry

  • 1 egg, beaten

  • 1 tin (400g) baked beans, drained of excess sauce

  • 200g grated cheddar

  • 1 tbsp poppy seeds

  • A little plain flour for dusting

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 200°C and line a baking tray with baking paper.

  2. Unroll the puff pastry on a lightly floured surface and cut it in half lengthways to create two long strips.

  3. Cut the sausages into 1-2 cm pieces and brown them in a frying pan over medium heat for 3-4 minutes, until lightly golden on the outside. Remove from the pan and set aside to cool slightly.

  4. In a bowl, mix the browned sausage pieces with the drained baked beans and grated cheese until well combined. Spoon this mixture evenly down the centre of each pastry strip, leaving a border on either side.

  5. Brush one long edge of each pastry strip with beaten egg, fold it over the filling to enclose it, and press the edges firmly together. Crimp with a fork to seal.

  6. Cut each long roll into smaller sausage rolls, about 5-6 cm each, and place them seam-side down on the prepared tray. Brush the tops with the remaining beaten egg and sprinkle with poppy seeds.

  7. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the pastry is puffed, golden, and crisp, and the filling is hot and bubbling. Leave to cool slightly before serving.
