Jamie Keeble spoke to The Grocer about HECK!’s commitment to inspiring the next generation to pursue a career in the food industry and the opportunities that are available.
In light of the food industry unveiling a public information push to attract future talent, Jamie Keeble highlighted to The Grocer about how HECK! is working to change the perception of food jobs. While many think of manual labour, there are heaps of opportunities in areas like technical, production, QA and operations.
As part of our efforts to inspire the next generation, we recently partnered with a local primary school so we could run a sausage-creation competition. The winning entry, Lola’s Lemon & Honey Chicken Sausages, was such a hit that it earned a listing in Booths!
In addition to this, we have also launched a food and farming internship scheme, where we’ve welcomed some talented individuals to the team and given them hands-on experience in various areas of HECK! HQ, hopefully helping to open doors to successful careers.
While we fully support the campaign, we believe more needs to be done by the Department for Food, Environment and Rural Affairs (DEFRA) in terms of making funds available for specialist qualifications, improved apprenticeship schemes, and integrating food education into school curriculums.
